Reports to: Jen Reddig, Director of the LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Program
Location: Hybrid – St. Paul, MN / Telehealth (Remote)

We are seeking a Clinical Trainee (pursuing licensure) who is passionate about serving the LGBTQIA+ community and eager to grow as part of a collaborative and affirming team.

Who We Are

Pathways Counseling Center is growing and expanding to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, affirming mental health care. Our LGBTQIA+ Program, led by Director Jen Reddig, LICSW, provides compassionate, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed therapy for individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. We are proud to create a space where clients can bring their full selves and where clinicians can grow both personally and professionally in a supportive, mission-driven environment. Our team is committed to creating a safe space where healing and self-discovery can thrive.

Who We Support

  • We welcome LGBTQIA+ adults and family members seeking to better support their loved ones.
  • We specialize in supporting clients at the intersection of LGBTQIA+ identity and neurodivergence.
  • We believe every person deserves a therapist who understands their lived experience and offers compassionate, competent support.

What Makes Us Unique

  • Many neurodivergent individuals face challenges finding therapists who truly understand the complexity of their identities and lived experiences.
  • Our team values authenticity, curiosity, and trust. We listen without judgment, honor each person’s story, and celebrate the ongoing journey of self-discovery.
  • Some of our providers share these identities themselves, allowing us to connect with clients in deeper, more meaningful ways.
  • Our specialties include trauma recovery, emotion regulation, self-compassion, diverse relationship structures.

Why Inclusive Care Matters

LGBTQIA+ adults face unique mental health challenges—research shows that:

  • Lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults are over twice as likely to experience mental health issues compared to heterosexual adults. (SAMHSA, 2016)
  • Transgender adults are nearly four times more likely to face mental health struggles than their cisgender peers. (Transgender Health, 2019)

These disparities often stem from identity exploration, family rejection, and unsupportive environments. That’s why affirming, culturally responsive care is essential.

Support Through Every Stage of Your Career

Pathways offers an established team around your clinical work. You can build a flexible practice with support for referrals, supervision when applicable, billing, credentialing, documentation, and continued learning. You will also have people who want to know you and support the career you are trying to build.

Supervision

  • SUPERVISION AT NO COST FOR ELIGIBLE CLINICIANS: Pathways provides qualifying licensure supervision for applicable LICSW, LMFT, and LPCC pathways through an approved supervisor qualified for the track. The arrangement is reviewed against the candidate’s requirements before clinical work begins.
  • SUPERVISION CONNECTED TO YOUR CLINICAL WORK: You can receive guidance while developing clinical judgment, serving clients, learning documentation expectations, and understanding the program in which you practice.
  • A WAY TO EARN WHILE DEVELOPING PROFESSIONALLY: After graduation and once applicable requirements are met, a paid clinical trainee role may allow you to build your practice while completing the supervised experience required for your pathway.
  • ADDITIONAL PEOPLE AND RESOURCES: Clinical consultation, experienced colleagues, program leadership, documentation feedback, and training support your development alongside formal supervision.

As You Become Independently Licensed

  • Credentialing and contracting expertise help you navigate the next professional stage.
  • Existing familiarity with systems, supervisors, and colleagues can carry forward too.
  • Where clinical, payer, and role requirements allow, clients may be able to continue with you, the therapist they already trust.
  • Your established service-volume tier carries into the licensed compensation structure when the applicable requirements are met.

 Billing, Credentialing, And Contracting

  • Bring your clinical skills into an organization equipped to support that work.
  • A therapy practice has work around every clinical service: payer requirements, enrollment, claims, follow-up, documentation, and the systems that connect them.
  • Pathways has already developed people and processes around those responsibilities.

Credentialing And Payer Enrollment

  • Our Credentialing Liaison supports credentialing and contracting with experience in payer applications, enrollment requirements, follow-up, and the steps clinicians encounter as they move into independently licensed practice.
  • We provide help understanding and completing the complex process so you can focus on your primary work instead of having to develop that expertise alone.

Payer Contracting and Administrative Systems

  • Pathways provides support with the payer contracts and requirements relevant to the Pathways practice.
  • Administrative support, electronic documentation systems, policies, procedures, and team communication are already established.

Billing and Collections

  • For services provided through Pathways, the organization handles billing and collections.
  • The team supports claim processing and insurer follow-up, including denials, unpaid claims, and claims that need correction.
  • When a clinical or documentation question requires the therapist’s input, you have people to work with on the next step.

Additional Benefits

Schedule with Flexibility

  • Your schedule is built around the appointments you arrange with clients, the needs of the role, and contract commitments.
  • APPOINTMENT TIMES THAT FIT YOUR LIFE: Depending on client needs, possibilities can include four longer days, earlier starts and earlier finishes, later starts, or some evening and weekend appointments.
  • ROOM FOR FAMILY AND PERSONAL COMMITMENTS: Scheduling flexibility can help you arrange work around parenting, caregiving, appointments, and other priorities.

Meetings and Time Away

  • Required scheduled meetings are relatively limited and primarily remote.
  • They may include clinical supervision or consultation, monthly documentation review and support, monthly team meetings or training, and weekly specialty-team meetings when applicable.
  • Licensure supervision follows the arrangement required for the clinician’s specific pathway.
  • You have flexibility in planning time off while coordinating appropriate client care and meeting your responsibilities.

A Predictable Payment Schedule

  • Contractors are paid every other Friday for eligible completed services.
  • Pathways does not wait for the insurance company to reimburse the organization before paying the therapist.

 Compensation for Eligible Travel

  • We recognize the travel involved in providing eligible community-based services.
  • Required travel is paid according to the travel-minute structure in the contractor agreement.
  • THERAPISTS RECEIVE 100% OF WHAT INSURANCE PAYS US FOR TRAVEL!
